Britain’s trade balance improved in January after a dramatic fall in oil prices cut the cost of imports.

The UK economy grew by 0.6 per cent in the fourth quarter, revised up from a previous estimate of 0.5 per cent, official figures showed today.
The figures also showed that GDP per head in 2014 rose by 2.2 per cent. It is seen as a key measure because it indicates that the size of the economy per person is growing even as the population expands... (Read more)

When the euro/sterling rate was 85p, I purchased shares in sterling. Now the rate is 73p. If I sell now and invest further in sterling without realising cash and perhaps spending it, do I have to take account of the exchange rates for purpose of CGT?
The amount in sterling remains the same but would be showing profit in euro.

There have been certain reliefs for people who reinvest gains but these, as far as I know, relate exclusively to the sale of assets relating to a business or trade and the investment of those gains in the trade or business. I don’t think they are going to provide you with any relief in your current position... (Read more)

China has intensified its efforts recently to deepen diplomatic and trade relationships with international partners and secure its rapidly expanding interests globally. This new dynamic presents both challenges and opportunities for the United States. Regrettably, Beijing sees the US strategy of "pivoting" or "rebalancing" its Asia policy in a negative light, as an effort to contain China. Moreover, in the important areas of trade, investment, and regional security, China and the United States seem to be moving apart. Both countries need to refocus on ways to strengthen mutual ties and work to resolve the issues that divide them... (Read more).
